Does application of castor oil increase the growth of your lashes or is it really necessary to get a trim every six weeks? We come across so many advice given by our mom to our beautician. It may be well-meaning, but a lot of it is fantasy.
Here are five common beauty myths that we run into regularly.
Trim every 6 weeks – Hair grows from the roots not the ends. A trim does give you healthy hair as you are controlling the split ends. It’s important to use the right products for your hair, go in for regular oiling and hair spas. The right diet as well as vitamins is vital for hair growth and for the overall good health of your mane.
Testing makeup on your wrist rather than face– It’s always advisable to do a patch test when you are buying makeup. Most of us tend to test lipsticks, foundations and eye shadows on our wrist or thumb, but that’s not the way to do it. Makeup artist’s advice to test makeup on the part of the face where it’s meant for as you would get a far better idea if the colour matches with your skin tone. The oils in your thumb and wrist sometimes change the colour of the eye shadow and the lipstick. A lot of times we end up buying the wrong shade as we try it at the wrong place.
Castor oil and Vaseline help in the growth of eyelashes– It is not a scientifically proven, but rather passed on as a beauty myth by our grandmothers. They mostly provide conditioning to the eyelashes rather than enabling growth. It may make the eyelashes look longer and fuller and prevent them from breakage while rubbing the eyes.
Nails get yellow due to nail polish– It’s mostly the darker colour nail polishes that make the nails yellow. Stick to lighter colour polishes or better still a classic French manicure. You can also just wear a transparent base coat to prevent the nails from staining, they protect the nails. Also don’t wear a dark colour for a longer period of time.
Keeping cosmetics in the fridge – Our mom’s used to do this all time, keeping their beauty supplies in the fridge to increase their shelf life. But it’s not advisable to do that as makeup products like lipsticks and eye shadow tend to lose moisture and become dry if stored in the fridge. Of course keep them away from sunlight and store them in a cool and dry place.
